Licenses & Credits
chaloPlay is built on open-source software and freely licensed assets. Everything below is free for commercial use; this page carries the attribution those licenses ask for.
3D characters
The characters at the Bluffing? table come from three free asset packs by Kay Lousberg (kaylousberg.com), all released under CC0 1.0 (public domain dedication):
- KayKit Adventurers Character Pack 2.0 — the knight, barbarian, mage, rogues and ranger
- KayKit Character Pack: Skeletons 1.1 — the four skeletons
- KayKit Character Animations 1.2 — Prototype Pete and his animation set
Crediting Kay is not required by CC0, but the work deserves it. Each pack's own license file ships alongside the
models in /models/kaykit/.
Typefaces
- Space Grotesk by Florian Karsten — SIL Open Font License 1.1
- JetBrains Mono by the JetBrains Mono Project Authors — SIL Open Font License 1.1
Both are self-hosted rather than loaded from a font CDN, so opening a page here sends nothing to a third party.
Software
The game runs on Svelte, SvelteKit, three.js, Threlte, Socket.IO and Express, among others — 107 packages in all, almost entirely MIT-licensed, with a few under Apache-2.0, BSD-3-Clause, ISC and CC0. None of it is copyleft (no GPL, AGPL, LGPL or SSPL).
The complete list, with each package's full license text, is at
THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt. It is regenerated from the dependency tree by
scripts/generate-notices.mjs.
Everything else
The rest is original work: the ship artwork is hand-drawn SVG, the playing cards and poker table are drawn in code onto canvas textures, and the 3D table is built from primitive geometry. Every sound effect has a built-in version generated at runtime with the Web Audio API, and the game can play recorded sound files in its place where one has been installed (listed under "Sound files" below). No stock art and no third-party sprites are used anywhere.
Sound files
No recorded sound files are installed at present; every sound is generated in your browser. Any recorded file that is added will be listed here with its author and licence.
Game rules
Both games use public-domain rules. Sink is a descendant of Salvo, a pen-and-paper game that predates any commercial version; Bluffing? is the folk card game also known as Cheat or I Doubt It. Neither is affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any commercial board-game publisher.
